WHY THIS MATTERS

The Behavior Dysregulation Program equips therapists to bring trauma-informed, whole-family support that leads to lasting transformation. Based in Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI) and supported by additional proven strategies, this program helps children and caregivers heal, connect, and grow.

According to the CDC, 1 in 20 elementary-aged children have been prenatally exposed to alcohol. Yet many are undiagnosed, misunderstood, or unsupported.

Children from hard places often experience:

  • prenatal alcohol exposure

  • trauma in their own lives or families

  • unstable home environments

  • lack of positive, resilient-building influences

The result?

  • behavioral dysregulation at home and school

  • chronic anxiety and depression

  • pediatric mental health crises (up 60% in Tennessee children’s hospitals)

BRIDGING THE GAP

Our Behavior Dysregulation Program has its foundation in Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI) * and serves to bridge the gap for children and families from hard places by utilizing the basics of TBRI in a format for therapists to use within a therapeutic setting.

  • 90-day program

  • 1 - 2 therapy sessions per week

  • required testing with the primary caregiver and child prior to beginning the program and again after 90 days

    • Caregiver Tests

      • ACE Score

      • Resiliency Questionnaire

      • Perceived Stress Scale

    • Child Tests

      • Sensory Profile

      • ADAS-R

      • BASC-3

      • ASEBA-CBCL (ages 1.5-5 or 6-18)

  • primary caregiver is required to participated and complete three brief TBRI education meetings either individually or with a group, in-person or online

  • additional training regarding FASD or other concerns can be done prior to beginning the program or post the 90 days after second tests are administered

It is our hope that this will provide a usable outline for therapists who are working with children from hard places to implement TBRI and other strategies to help bring hope and healing to families in crisis.
